It is in the Legal and Compliance/Company Secretarial portfolio/ It is reported through the company Nominations, Governance, ethics and Social Committee (a Board sub committee)

It is in the Legal and Compliance/Company Secretarial portfolio/ It is reported through the company Nominations, Governance, Social and Ethics Committee (a Board sub committee).  Some financial matters resort under the Audit Committee (a statutary committee)

How are human rights managed within your company?

It is embedded in the Ethics Policy and employees are regularly trained in this. It also applies to our service providers. Effectiveness is tracked through media scanning and feedback.

Update 2016:

It is embedded in the Code of Ethics and related policy and employees are regularly trained in this. Service provider ethics is managed through a Sopplier Code of Ethics.

What is the company’s approach to the engagement of stakeholders (including workers, and local communities impacted by the company’s activities), on human rights issues?

It is dealt with within the existing company procedures and tools, such as the BD&I model for projects, procurement processes and risk assessments.

Update 2016:

Actions on health Both proactively and reactively addressed by Sasolmed.  Employee wellness is managed through HR, for example free in-house screening of diabetes, HIV/AIDS, obesity, etc.  Some of these extendd to service providers
Actions on workplace diversity / unfair discrimination Managed through target setting embedded in key performance areas, part of incentive scheme
Actions on forced labour and human trafficking Entrenched in Sasol's Ethics and Human Rights policy
Actions on sexual harassment Addressed by way of training and through whistle blowing
Actions on freedom of association and trade union rights Legislated and part of Human Rights Policy
Actions on displacement and community relocation Addressed in Mozambique by way of community participation, and throug EIA's for any other projects.
Actions on housing Housing provided (ownership transferred) to Mining workers.  Support for other employees in terms of hoam loans, etc
Actions on access to water We partner with local authorities to drive beyond fence-line water conservation opportunities, ensuring acces to water to the communities
Actions on freedom of expression and privacy Contained in the Sasol Code of Ethics
Actions on operations in conflict zones We have no operations in conflict zones.  Should an area where we operate develop in a conflict zone, we have the procedures to protect and extradite our employees.
Actions on relations with security providers Our relationship with security providers are covered in two policies - the first is the Ethics and Human Rights Policy, but also in our Security policy. 
Actions on conflict minerals Through our Product Stewardship and Responsible Care initiatives we ensure that we are not complicit in the using of conflict minerals.
Actions on tax avoidance & revenue transparency Policy of compliance with the letter and spirit of tax laws of the countries we operate in
Actions on product misuse Through our Product Stewardship and Responsible Care initiatives we address potential product misuse
Actions on women Females are addressed in our Ethics and Human Rights Policy and we describe in our sustainability reporting how we promote women in the workplace. 
Actions on children (including child labour) Children (youth)  are addressed in our Ethics and Human Rights Policy and wour supplier agreements
Actions on indigenous peoples Indigenous people are identified through our BD&I model used for projects during Gate 1 review.  Should there be any, normative international instruments are used to engage with them
Actions on racial and ethnic minorities Racial and ethnic minorities are addressed in our Ethics and Human Rights Policy and we describe in our sustainability reporting how we have dealt with racial issues in the country during the recent past.
Actions on migrant workers Treated in the same way as SA workers, we do not discriminate to workers in terms of their origin

How are human rights commitments and information about how the company addresses its human rights impacts communicated, internally and externally?

It is done through the annual Sustainable Development Report (www.sasolsdr.com)

What provisions does your company have in place to ensure that grievances from workers and affected communities or individuals are heard, and can you provide examples of remedies provided?

It is handled through the independent ethics call number.

Grievances are handled through the Human Resources function. Unresolved matters regularly become the subject of whistle blowing

Particpation through the NBI's woking groups
