Senior Labour Analyst at Verisk Maplecroft

Role Purpose

The Senior Analyst will work in the Human Rights Research team, specialising in the analysis of business-specific labour rights impacts and international and voluntary standards in this area, including emerging risk issues and best practices for companies. The focus of this role will be on providing qualitative analysis to support the development and delivery of Verisk Maplecroft research, products – and, where needed, consultancy services – related to labour rights.

The Senior Analyst will be a recognised authority on Verisk Maplecroft’s expertise of the international labour rights landscape, and will be able to present confidently on labour rights to clients and to external stakeholders, including at conferences and to the media. Additionally, the remit of the role will include providing input to the sales team to engage with prospective clients to grow revenue and work on a variety of labour rights-related consulting projects, alongside our Consulting team. The ideal candidate will have commercial experience working in Asia within the field of consulting, responsible sourcing, sustainability, labour rights research, or similar.

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and growing human rights team, which consists of other human rights, labour, and supply chain analysts based in the UK.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead labour rights and business research and analysis in the context of global, regional, country-level, and thematic labour rights risks
  • Work with product managers to deliver high quality, timely content.  Contribute to development plans for new and existing products, providing ideas and support for enhancements and improvements
  • Respond to client enquiries and ad hoc requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry contacts and research clients, including presenting to clients, at conferences and via web calls. Where appropriate, engage with the press to build Verisk Maplecroft’s reputation and expertise in the field of labour rights and business
  • Liaise with other experts across the Verisk Maplecroft business, providing input to other product workstreams and informing the business of trends and insights emerging in the field
  • Periodically support the consulting side of the business through contributions to projects for a wide variety of clients

Research tasks may include:

  • Producing briefings, reports and other written analysis on labour rights risks to business relating to countries, companies and sectors
  • Supporting clients in their use of Verisk Maplecroft products via calls and meetings
  • Substantive contributions to the development of indices, indicators and maps to measure and illustrate global, national and sub-national labour rights issues
  • Management of projects, including written content and periodic consulting engagements
  • Client-specific consultancy on relevant labour rights risk management
  • Research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative content relating to labour rights risk and business impacts


Qualifications

Required

  • Advanced degree (MA, JD or other advanced degree) in labour rights, international law, international development, or similar field
  • Minimum 2-3 years' relevant professional experience in risk consulting, responsible sourcing, sustainability, labour rights research, or similar
  • Extensive knowledge of labour rights principles and normative frameworks, including labour standards and business and labour rights obligations
  • Ability to analyse legal gaps in the regulatory framework of labour issues such as young workers, health and safety standards, and other workplace issues impacting labour compliance standards
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, to present analysis and ideas
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Commitment to excellence and meeting the high quality standards expected by our clients
  • Exhibit high work standards, adherence to procedures, and responsibility for assigned tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and lead the efforts of other professionals

Desirable

  • Experience working in Asia or analysing labour rights in Asian markets
  • Knowledge of or certification in auditing processes
  • Project management experience
  • Experience engaging with businesses regarding company requirements related to sustainability, due diligence, and associated risks and responsibilities
