Sense & Sustainability: Banking on greener tea

[T]he management at Lipton and its parent company, Unilever, are putting a great deal of effort into maintaining responsible labour conditions for their pluckers, not to mention enforcing a host of sustainable agriculture practices... Although most environmentalists tend to cringe or scowl upon hearing the name Unilever, the company's tea operations are commendable and have been for some time. Currently in the midst of seeking Rainforest Alliance certification, Unilever hopes to have every leaf in all of the 19 billion tea bags it produces each year - whether under the Lipton, Red Rose, Salada or PG Tips banner - sourced by sustainable means and officially recognized by this third-party organization...
