A survey of 60 former sawmill workers and their families in the Eastern Bay of Plenty has found many suffer a wide range of illnesses, including cancer and depression. The report commissioned by lobby group Sawmill Workers Against Poisons (SWAP) and approved by the Ministry for the Environment, local health authorities and an ethics committee, found many workers blamed their illnesses on chemicals used at their former workplaces.
