Vedanta response to Survival International media statement

Vedanta has, on several occasions, offered Survival the opportunity to discuss the project with us...Survival has so far not chosen to do so. The Lanjigarh bauxite mining project was thoroughly studied by the Central Government of India as well as the State Government of Orissa. All issues concerning this project were thoroughly reviewed by expert bodies appointed with the concurrence of the Supreme Court of India. There are no outstanding issues and the bauxite mining project has now been approved by the Supreme Court of India. Vedanta is pleased that the project has been approved and is committed to implementing it in accordance with the guidelines and safeguards laid down by the Supreme Court of India.

La ONG…Survival International ha elegido a las empresas Vedanta, Perenco y Samling como…las tres compañías que "mayores abusos" cometen contra los derechos de los pueblos indígenas…"La minería, la perforación petrolífera y la tala. Estas tres compañías trabajan en campos muy diferentes, pero tienen algo en común: un completo desprecio por las vidas de la gente cuyas tierras están destruyendo", afirmó el director de Survival, Stephen Corry, que criticó que las tres compañías hablen de responsabilidad social corporativa, y luego no la pongan en práctica.

UN Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Survival names ‘unholy trinity’

To mark the UN Day for Indigenous Peoples…Survival International…named its ‘unholy trinity’ – the three worst companies abusing tribal peoples’ rights. They are:
1. Vedanta…determined to construct a bauxite mine on the sacred hills of the Dongria Kondh tribe in Orissa, India...The Dongria Kondh…are resolutely opposed to the mine…
2. Perenco…pushing ahead with drilling in the nothern Peruvian Amazon, despite being warned that its operations risk the lives of uncontacted Indian groups…
3. Samling…in…Malaysia…has been responsible for logging vast areas of rainforest, including the ancestral lands of the nomadic Penan tribe.
