Taiwan: 44 companies fined for violating labour laws

The Kaohsiung City Government's Labor Affairs Bureau...announced that it has already fined 44 companies this year for violating the Labor Standards Act, including publicly owned CPC Corporation...The companies were all fined, from NT$80,000 (S$3,502) to NT$140,000...the company has been extending the work hours of its employees without paying them overtime, asking them to work over the holidays without pay and neglecting to pay the extra amount the Labor Standards Act mandates for employees who work over weekends or during holidays...According to statistics gathered by the Labor Affairs Bureau, there have been 134 cases that violated the Labor Standards Act this year (as of February 2015)...Most of the cases involved the company concerned holding back overtime pay, making employees work overtime or refusing to grant the legally required number of days off...
