Relief and rescue work are still on at the Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) [part of Vedanta Resources] thermal power plant in Korba district of Chhattisgarh where a chimney collapsed on Wednesday killing at least 31 people and trapping many others…According to eyewitnesses, there was heavy rain at the time of the accident and a lighting strike could have caused the…collapse…An FIR [First Information Report] has been registered against BALCO following the incident and the state government, too, has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident…The chimney collapsed when about 100 workers and engineers were engaged in the construction work...reportedly executed by a Chinese company named SEPKO.
