UAE: Govt. inspections find major health & safety hazards in labour accommodation

"Major hazards identified during surprise visits to labour accommodation", 28 Jul 2019

Unsafe electrical equipment was highlighted as a major hazard during unannounced visits to labour accommodation… officials stopped in at 31 sites across the city, and have moved to remind employers of their obligations after noting poor hygiene and an absence of firefighting equipment… "The inspectors made visits to these temporary accommodations for workers to ensure that safety and security measures are in place and the workers' rights are observed,” [said] Dr. Huda Al Salmi, director of the environment, health and safety department at the Abu Dhabi Municipality… Fines can be issued for those who fail to comply with regulation.
