Uganda: Petition for restitution of community displaced to pave way for Neumann Kaffee Gruppe's subsidiary

"Support the Evictees Against the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe and Government of Uganda"

Almost eighteen years after the evictees were expelled from their lands, the court has finally ordered a mediation until 28 August 2019. We urge you to support the evictees’ demands for the full restitution of their land and compensation for all harms and losses caused. In August 2001 the inhabitants of four villages in the Mubende District in Uganda were forcefully evicted by the Ugandan army. The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) leased the land to Kaweri Coffee Plantation Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of the German Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG). The crops, houses, churches, and a medical clinic of the approx. 4,000 peasants were destroyed.

Despite having lost everything, the community continued to fight for justice. The case was filed at court in 2002. But no one has been compensated for the losses until today. Now the court has ordered the mediation until 28 August 2019. The time has finally come to end the suffering of the evictees. The Government of Uganda must uphold its human rights obligation and NKG must participate constructively in a manner that respects human rights. We urge you to support the evictees who are demanding "the restitution of their land and compensation for all harms and losses caused" The petition will be handed over to President Museveni of Uganda, and Mr. Christian Neumann, NKG Managing Director, on 20 August 2019.
