UK: P&O Ferries staff allege low wages & poor working conditions; Incl. co comments

In June 2019, P&O Ferries was accused of labour abuses and wages so low it amounted to "slave labour". UK Member of Parliament Karl Turner claimed in the House of Commons that some foreign staff on board P&O vessels received a wage of as little as £2.13 an hour and called for all workers to be paid the national minimum wage.

In July, Portuguese staff working on board P&O vessel The Pride of Hull issued an open letter to P&O and recruitment agency Clyde Marine calling for improved pay and working conditions. The letter outlines a number of concerns, with workers claiming they are being made to work for up to two months with no time off and are being paid a low salary which does not reflect the work they are being asked to do.

P&O say it complies fully with international agreements and that its staff are paid fairly. Further comments are included in the articles below.
