UK trade unions write to G4S seeking clarification & assurances regarding current position on its activities in Israel & Occupied Palestinian Territories

Following the announcement earlier in the year by G4S that it would sell its Israeli subsidiary, in May 2016 a group of UK trade unions and NGOs including Unite and War on Want wrote to G4S asking for clarification and assurances from G4S regarding its current activities in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

We invited G4S to respond which it did.

G4S response to union letter

As we have stated previously during our Annual General Meetings and in response to other enquiries, for commercial reasons, G4S will not renew the contracts in question when they expire. All of these contracts expire by the end of 2017. As is the case with the vast majority of our customers around the world, we are not authorised to provide specific information on individual contracts for reasons of commercial confidentiality.

The announcement of the decision to sell G4S Israel and three other major businesses was made in March 2016 as part of the company’s 2015 annual results announcement. The timeframe provided (12 to 24 months) was an estimate based on our experience of selling a wide range of businesses in the past – it is not possible to provide a definitive date. We have had good interest from a number of credible parties and will make a further announcement in due course.
