[Original company response in Ukrainian; title translation, and following summary of the response's key points, provided by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre] The construction of a new 330 kV overhead transmission line interconnection between Usatove and Ajalyk substations in the Odessa region is being carried out in accordance with Decree of the President of Ukraine # 1863/2005 and Decrees of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine # 436-r and 428. Since local land owners protested against the construction of the transmission line in the villages of Neubayske and Usatove, the State Project Scientific and Research Institute has modified the project so that the route of the existing 330 kV MolDRES-Usatove overhead transmission line is used to construct a new 330 kV Adjalik-Usatove overhead transmission line. The modified project was carefully assessed, including environmental assessment, by appropriate state institutions and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The land adjacent to the transmission line was granted to Ukrenergo for permanent use. However, the land is being used by individuals for construction of green houses, storage facilities and even apartments in violation of corresponding regulations. New pylons of a greater height have been installed for a new transmission line, which reduces the voltage from the electric field under the transmission line, minimizing the negative impact on the environment.
