US: Asarco closure plan cheers Globeville

Asarco LLC [part of Grupo Mexico] said Wednesday it will close its controversial metals-processing plant in Globeville by the end of August, eliciting cries of joy from neighborhood residents...Asarco's 89-acre plant...has a long history of polluting nearby areas with toxic waste...in 1993...regulators determined that the plant had spread lead and arsenic pollution through parts of a 4.5-square-mile area...Asarco officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday on the cleanup funding.
