The movement to bring gender pay equity to the American workforce...in the last two [years] has hit a seemingly fever pitch. Women are filing multimillion-dollar class action lawsuits against their employers, more than half of the United States has moved to enact some form of tougher pay equity legislation and the concept of pay equality has become a focal point of the presidential election.

ALM wanted to take a closer look at why these issues are bubbling up so intensely now—more than 50 years since the federal Equal Pay Act of 1963 attempted to address the issue—and what the legal, financial and insurance industries are doing about it.
