USA: GE Health and unions negotiate new contract increasing wages and benefits, averting strikes

Two unions representing...workers at GE Healthcare’s facilities in the Milwaukee area approved a contract with the company, averting the possibility of a strike.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) said they voted overwhelmingly on Friday to accept “an improved contract offer from General Electric.”

IAM and IBEW members in General Electric’s aviation and medical divisions accepted the deal after improvements to a previously rejected offer from the company, they said. The new deal keeps the defined benefit pension plan, improves the 401(k) plan, reduces the members’ cost of health care, and includes general wage and cost of living increases, the unions said...

...A spokesman for GE released the following statement Friday afternoon: “We are pleased to announce that the IAM and IBEW Local 663 membership have ratified the revised four-year agreement with GE. We appreciate working with the IAM and IBEW leadership to produce a package that provides increased wages and excellent benefits for employees. We look forward to moving ahead under this agreement to serve our customers and continue our company’s return to a position of strength.”...
