Lawyers for the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center deny any wrongdoing by the company, which faces a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  In papers filed in U.S. District Court...[counsel for the defendant] ask that the complaint be dismissed…The EEOC filed the lawsuit after a preliminary investigation revealed an employee was subjected to repeated racial slurs, remarks about slavery and other offensive behavior, according to…EEOC’s district director in Chicago.  The lawsuit, filed in September, alleges the company knew about racial harassment toward at least one black employee…The company did little or nothing to stop it, according to the complaint…“The defendant’s actions were legitimate, non-discriminatory, job-related and consistent with appropriate business judgment,” the hotel lawyers argue…The hotel exercised reasonable care to prevent and promptly correct any harassing, discriminatory or retaliatory behavior and the aggrieved individuals failed to take advantage of the preventive and corrective measures provided by the hotel to avoid harm, they added.  The lawsuit seeks compensation for emotional pain, humiliation and inconvenience…
