USA: Supermarket operator Golub Corp. to pay $6.5 million to settle unpaid overtime class action lawsuit

A judge has approved a settlement in a long-running class action lawsuit filed by employees who didn’t receive overtime pay at Price Chopper and Market 32 supermarkets.  The supermarkets’ parent company,...Golub Corp., will pay $6.5 million to the plaintiffs and their attorneys.  The case was filed...by a...woman who claimed that the company unlawfully classified her and other department managers as team leaders exempt from federal overtime protections.  Four other people joined as named plaintiffs, and the class of similarly affected but unnamed Golub employees was expected to number at least in the hundreds.  The parties twice attempted to resolve the lawsuit through mediation.  The first effort failed in May 2016 but the second succeeded in April 2017.  It took several months longer to finalize the settlement...
