It is no surprise that companies are striving to be more responsible. We’ve all seen the statistics around millennials and where they want to work, shop, eat, and play. More and more, businesses are expected by their customers and employees to stand for something and support a cause. In fact, cause has quickly become one of the biggest and fastest growing segments in spending for brands in the US. According to the IEG Sponsorship Report, in 2018, brands are expected to spend over $2.1 billion in cause related marketing spends, which is up 4.4% from spending in 2017... But in today’s increasingly divided country, deciding what cause to support can have complicated implications for companies if their employees and customers don’t share the same viewpoint... But not all stands have to be controversial to be impactful. Encouraging bi-partisan voting is one of the most important stances a company can champion for their employees, vendors, and customers...Patagonia, for example, recently announced it will close all stores on Election Day so their employees can vote.
