Uzbeks protest against Tajik plans to expand aluminium plant

The Environmental Movement of Uzbekistan organised a rally in Termez…to protest against the expansion of the Tajik Aluminium Plant. Over 1,200 people, including students and teachers of a local university, tried to attract public attention to the plant’s damage to the environment and the health of the population in Surhandarya Region’s Sariasia, Uzun and Denau Districts…The protesters reminded that in 1994 the two countries signed an agreement that was supposed to improve the environmental situation, but Tajikistan had never delivered its promises.
