[video] Petition urges Myer disability quotas [Australia]

Myer's social media woes over NDIS [National Disability Insurance Scheme] comments appear set to continue as more than 20,000 people sign a petition calling for the department store chain to set disability hiring quotas. The online petition...calls for Myer to show support for Australians with disability by ''committing to an employment target of 10 per cent of people with disability by the end of 2015''. The call for change comes as Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes...said the federal government's proposed increase to the Medicare levy to part-fund the proposed national disability insurance scheme would hurt sales at its stores...Mr Brookes said in a statement...he wanted to make it clear that Myer supported the national disability insurance scheme...''As a business, we are sensitive to imposts on the consumer by the government as this adds to negative consumer sentiment and that adversely impacts sales, profit and jobs. Ideally, we would like any government initiative to be funded within the revenue stream it has, rather than through a new or additional tax take. ''However, I do apologise to those who have taken offence to my comments about an increase in taxes.'' [refers to Westpac, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, IBM]
