Why India can’t stop toxic ships
One of the world's most poisonous dead ship[s], Clemenceau will probably not be stopped by the Indian authorities when it reaches Alang in mid-January...The ministry of environment and forest rules stipulate that vessels made of toxic material like asbestos and used for insulation in Clemenceau needs to be de-contaminated before entering India. But it rarely happens. Greenpeace, which is spearheading the campaign against the dismantling of toxic ships, say workers in Alang have died due to exposure to toxic waste.
