Worker killed in Ctg ship breaking yard [Bangladesh]

A worker died after a large iron plate fell on him at a ship-breaking yard at Bhatiari in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong…The victim Md Khorshed Alam, 20, worked at SRS Ship Breaking Yard and hailed from Kotapara in Sitakunda upazila. Inspector (Investigation) Aminul Islam of Sitakunda Police Station said Khorshed was seriously injured around 4:00am. He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead…[Y]ard owner Abdullah Al Mamun…[said] he was in the capital and knew nothing about the accident. He said no one worked during such ungodly hours at his yard. It was the fourth accident at ship-breaking yards this year in which four people died. At least 11 workers had died in similar accidents in ship-breaking yards last year…
