“Justice is what we want, not threat, harassment and criminalization.”-Ed Cubelo of TMPCWA [Philippines]

“Justice is what we want, not threat and harassment.” This is the statement of Toyota Motors Philippine Workers Corporation Workers Association (TMPCWA) and Defend Job Philippines after the recent harassment to TMPCWA President Ed Cubelo…[F]our armed men who introduced themselves as agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) went to Ed Cubelo’s house and asked about his whereabouts. Ed Cubelo said that he experienced the same incidents sometime in 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 from surveillance to direct military harassments, death threats and many forms of threat and intimidation. “I believe that the harassment to me is because of my involvement in the recent SHAME TOYOTA /Shame George Ty Campaign. We started this campaign to let the people know about the worst business practices and suppression of Toyota against its workers…” Ed Cubelo said…[Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Toyota Motor to respond. We will indicate in next week’s Update whether the company responds.]
