Oil in Uganda

“My cows were killed by oil waste” [Uganda]

...[T]he entry of Heritage Oil in...[Rwebisengo area for oil exploration] excited...locals, who were eager to tap any opportunities the investors came with. “When I heard that the foreigners had come, I slaughtered a cow, put it on my pick-up and some sodas and drove to their camp,” narrated Yoweri Bamuhiiga...However, several days later...they had cut a road through a section of his land, without his permission...Some weeks later, the ‘foreigners’, again without consulting Yoweri, dug a pit in another section of his land...and started burying drilling waste there. When the rains came, water collected in the pit and his livestock started consuming the water leading some to die...Mineral Services Limited...the logistics service provider to Heritage Oil in the area...repudiated James’ claims. “...These allegations, these stories have no basis: we came out with a good record.” Heritage Oil was unwilling to comment on the issue either. Paul Atherton, the Chief Financial Officer referred Oil in Uganda to the current operators of the block. [also refers to Total & Tullow Oil]
