Webinar: Civil society actions for a fast & fair transition to renewable energy
Tuesday, 23 October, 2018 - 2pm-3pm (CET)
Renewable energy is key for our transition to a low-carbon economy. At the same time, it is now the sector with the third most frequent allegation of attacks and intimidation of human rights defenders working on business and human rights worldwide, behind mining and agribusiness.
We need to urgently scale up renewable energy to combat climate change – but how can we do so in a way that is not only good for the planet but also for people? Join us to learn about how civil society can support a fast and fair transition to renewable energy. Hear about the latest analysis on renewable energy companies’ policies and practices on human rights, get to know new online tools & resources for monitoring company actions, and share experiences from your own work.
This European Responsible Investment Network webinar features Eniko Horvath, Senior Researcher at the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC), and Adrian Banie Lasimbang, Executive Director of TONIBUNG. Eniko will speak about BHRRC’s latest research on policies and practices in renewable energy and human rights, and Adrian will discuss community-based renewable energy.
This is the first session targeted towards civil society organizations in a series of webinars on renewable energy & human rights. For information on the next sessions aimed at companies and investors check for updates here.
