Part-time employee at Fuji Food Systems seeks labour mediation over leave allowance payments, claiming discrimination against irregular workers

An employee at Fujio Food Systems claims that her company’s refusal to pay leave allowance to part-time workers—while making such payments to regular employees —is discrimination against irregular employees.

Last December she filed a mediation request to the Kanagawa Labour Office, seeking payment of leave allowance from her employer, Fuji Food Systems, which operates chain restaurants such as Maido Ookini Shokudo and Kushiya Monogatari.

Authorities have already announced that they will start mediation between the parties…

The employee’s labour union, Food Restaurant Union, learned the following from the company’s response: 1. Fujio Food Systems has experienced serious financial hardship due to Covid-19, 2.regular employers received 100% of the leave allowance from the company…

In response to Bengoshi Dot Com’s inquiries, a lawyer for Fujio Food Systems said, “We do not have any comments at this time, but we will respond appropriately to the mediation procedures”…
