Lawmakers urge cut in number of mobile phone base stations [Taiwan]

[L]egislators urged the National Communications Commission(NCC) [to cut down] the number of mobile phone base stations...There are...a total of about 48,000 base stations around the country...Legislator Kuo Chun-ming [said] the coverage rate of existing [base stations] is more than five times the amount that Taiwan residents actually need...Legislator Tsai Cheng-yuan...said that residential neighborhoods and schools must not be exposed to the risk of radiation which might cause cancer, miscarriages, and diseases of the nervous system.
