Malaysia: Palm oil company Sime Darby faces Securities Commission investigation over allegations of forced labour

Palm company Sime Darby Plantations faced an investigation by the Malaysian Securities Commission following a complaint by anti-trafficking group Liberty Shared over allegations of forced labour. Liberty Shared alleged that Sime Darby made "wrongful disclosures" in its 2019 sustainability report.

Subsequently, Sime Darby filed a lawsuit in the United States against against Duncan Jepson, Liberty Shared's managing director, for withholding information concerning its complaint. Sime Darby has since withdrawn the lawsuit saying that the Securities Commission has ceased its investigation on the company.
