New report explores the impact of Georgian mining policies on transparency, human rights, and the environment

Report: Labyrinths of Georgian Mining Sector Development Planning, 24 August 2020

This report examines mining policies in Georgia and the sector's impact on a number of human rights issues, including property rights, due diligence, environmental impacts, and transparency.

Chapter 1 of the study is an overview of some aspects of the policy carried out in the Georgian mining sector in the past 15 years. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 discuss the process of developing the Georgian mining sector policy and the outcomes caused by the opacity of this process. Chapter 5 describes "revolving door" between government employees and the private sector, and considers possible outcomes of a recent case. The concluding remarks provide opinions on the ways of rectifying the prevailing situation and preventing possible problems in the future.
