When it comes to supporting the HRWS [human right to water and sanitation], the Guiding Principles help companies lay effective groundwork for their relationships with local communities and other stakeholders. Many corporate water stewardship approaches emphasize the need to not only manage risk and respect rights but also support rights through the company’s various actions. The guidance will seek to identify some key pointers for companies that are keen to use their water stewardship efforts to also support the HRWS.
