[PDF] Talking the Human Rights Walk: Nestlé's Experience Assessing Human Rights Impacts in its Business Activities

In 2010 the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) entered into a partnership with Nestlé to support the company in its commitment to respect human rights as stated in the Nestlé Corporate Business Principles. As part of this commitment Nestlé has developed and implemented an 8-pillar Human Rights Due Diligence Program, in which Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs) play a pivotal role. This paper describes the steps that Nestlé has undertaken together with DIHR to assess and address its actual and potential impacts in 7 country operations…It then presents the aggregated HRIAs findings and the actions taken by Nestlé at the country and corporate levels to address them. Finally, a number of lessons learnt drawn from the HRIA process and outcomes have been included throughout the paper…
