Travelling to UAE, Oman seeking jobs on tourist visa to be banned

The Foreign Employment Bureau (SLBFE) has now barred Sri Lankans travelling to Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on tourist visa seeking employment opportunities after information about a human trafficking ring, which had been auctioning off Sri Lankan female domestic workers in these countries, came to light recently...

Meanwhile, the main suspect in this human trafficking ring was arrested by the airport police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this morning (Nov. 19) while returning to the island...

Further, it was revealed that the women in question are stranded in Oman as their employers have taken possession of their passports.

Reportedly, 08 of them had been brought to Oman unlawfully. Meanwhile, another woman had been auctioned off for prostitution by a female representative of an employment agency in Sri Lanka...
