Daw Myo Myo Aye (or Ma Myo Aye), Director of Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM), was arrested at the union’s office in Yangon on 15 April 2021, as unions worldwide are calling for governments to halt trade and other financial support that provide backing to the country’s military government. Over the years, Myo Myo Aye has worked to defend workers rights, freedom of association and freedom of expression in the country. Rights group report that since the military took over control in Myanmar on 1st of February 2021, searches and raids against democratic leaders and rights activists have been escalating, with many labour leaders going into hide to protect themselves and their families.
