Colombian social and environmental leader Yolanda Maturana was murdered on Thursday night by armed men who shot her several times in her home in the town of Pueblo Rico, in Colombia. The Colombian Ombudsman, Elsa Gladys Cifuentes, confirmed the murder and added that she had received denunciations by local Indians of the hooded siege. Maturana was known in the departments of Risalda (center) and Chocó (northwest) for her work denouncing illegal mining and pollution of water sources.
