Response to Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

De Beers Canada pays all required taxes in full, including federal and provincial taxes, the Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance...Mr. Hart may have been referring to mining royalties – an additional tax paid only by mining companies that is above and beyond the corporate tax levels for any other industry in Canada. Due to a combined capital investment of over $2 billion to open our mines just over three years ago in July 2008, De Beers Canada has yet to reach the required financial position to pay the additional mining royalties on the revenue from either our Snap Lake Mine in the Northwest Territories, or our Victor Mine in Northern Ontario.
