S. Africa: Public tip-off leads to the rescue of undocumented immigrants at a Chinese owned factory while police arrest members of an alleged traffic ring in Mpumalanga

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has condemned the slavery of human beings at a plastic factory in Alrode, Alberton. The DHA rescued fifty-one people who were subjected to inhumane and unspeakable working and living conditions in a factory owned by a Chinese national. This operation led to the arrest of these fifty-one illegal migrants while law enforcement officials are also investigating a possible case of human trafficking. In Mpumalanga, two suspects appeared at the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on charges of trafficking in persons after the Hawks in Mpumalanga rescued 39 victims on a farm in Belfast. The 39 victims including 7 women, 9 children under the age of five and 23 males all over the age of 18, were rescued from a farm in Belfast.
