Bangladesh: Over 400 tea workers face 'acute food crisis' after tea plantation closure; incl. co. response
In January 2022, it was reported that around 409 workers of Baikunthapur Tea Garden in Habiganj, Bangladesh, had not received their owed wages or rations for nearly a month, following the tea garden's closure on 8 December 2021. As a result, the workers alongside their family members, totalling 2000 people, faced an acute food crisis.
When workers tried to protest the eviction notice, they were told they would lose their jobs if they continued to protest. Following continued protests, the tea garden was closed.
