Japan / Palestine: Department store removes Israeli settlement wines from wine fair after NGO raises concerns

Daimaru, a high end Japanese department store, removed wines made in Israeli settlements in Palestine from a large scale Mediterranean wine fair, subsequent to concerns raised by the Executive Committee of 15 Days Standing for Solidarity with Palestine (15 Days). 15 Days had pointed out to Daimaru that all Israeli settlements were illegal under international law, and that companies should refrain from being complicit in Israeli settlement activities. In a statement issued by 15 Days, it welcomed Daimaru’s decision, while at the same time expressing regret that the wine fair still included other Israeli wines, some of which could potentially use grapes taken from the West Bank.
