Peru: 14 artisanal miners killed and 12 more disappeared in armed violence to evict them from Intigold mining company's land; company denies responsibility

Following gun battles on 01 and 02 June between security and workers of the Intigold mining company and artisanal miners, the Peruvian government declared a sixty-day state of emergency in the area. The dispute over the extraction of gold, at the heart of the violent conflict, has been going on for several years. The company, through its lawyer, has denied the facts; it claims that it is in liquidation, but the families of the victims and local authorities incriminate it.
