Cambodia: Garment factory will provide unpaid wages & bonuses to about 800 workers after suspended operations due to the Covid-19 setback

"About 800 workers to get unpaid wages tomorrow", 19 March 2020

Nearly 800 workers of the New Best Global Textile Factory in Kampong Speu province will receive compensation ... following a protest they held ... over unpaid wages and bonuses.

..., the textile factory workers held a protest in front of the factory and sent a petition to the Labour Ministry after their employer allegedly fled for failing to pay their salaries and severance payments. The company suspended production ... due to setbacks spurred by the coronavirus pandemic.

The workers’ representative Prum Tola said after two rounds of negotiation, the provincial labour department called on the workers to collect their last wages from the department.

The building owners, said Ms Tola, have acceded to pay the workers’ eight days’ worth of wages, severance pay, as well as 10 percent of their wages following the temporary cessation of operations.

“After demanding for compensation, the workers have finally received a solution that meets their demands,” she said.
