Killing of anti-mining activist in Compostela, Mindanao, Philippines. Jimmy Saypan, Secretary General of the Compostela Farmers Association (CFA), was shot by unnamed men, allegedly from the 66th Infantry Battalion-Philippine Army (IBPA) on October 10, 2016. Saypan was also prominent in the campaign against Agusan Petroleum and Minerals Corp. and military abuses. According to the environmental group Panalipdan-Southern Mindanao, there were several attempts on his life before the killing.
