In 2021, the Water Protector Legal Collective received a subpoena from Energy Transfer. The same year, the company also sent subpoenas to various actors who took action against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and supported the Standing Rock movement. The Collective has provided legal services to people facing criminal charges as part of the Standing Rock Movement. The subpoena requested communications with members of the press, among other things.
