Philippines: Union and workers on strike to demand living wage and benefits after a deadlock in CBA negotiations; incl. co. non-response

On 22 May 2025, Kawasaki United Labor Union (KULU) went on strike to protest the Kawasaki Motors Philippines Corporation’s (KMPC) in the Philippines in demand for living wage and benefits. The decision to go on strike was claimed to be legitimate by the union after they have not been able to resolve Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations with the company for nearly a year. The union and workers alleged that the company “lied” to them while “citing financial losses as a reason for denying their demands”.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Kawasaki Motors Corporation to respond to the allegations but it did not.
