Colombia: Cerrejón coal foundation and employees provide aid to Wayuu indigenous communities in La Guajira

“Pastoral social from the Catholic church and Cerrejón employees join together to support Wayuu communities in dealing with the COVID-19 emergency in La Guajira” - April 06, 2020

Cerrejón employees from the company’s volunteer program and the Cerrejón Foundation are partnering with Pastoral Social from the Catholic Church in La Guajira to provide aid to the most vulnerable indigenous communities in La Guajira which have been affected by the COVID-19 emergency in this part of the country. Employees from Cerrejón and the Cerrejón Foundation, workers of our contractors and anyone who wishes to join this initiative can donate money which will be used to deliver foodstuffs and hygiene kits to Wayuu communities in La Guajira…For its part, Cerrejón continues to support local communities in this emergency by providing water, delivering 15,000 masks and 350 protective suits to local hospitals, and by supporting these local authorities in delivering 300 packets of basic foodstuffs to 26 indigenous communities…Over the coming days, Cerrejón will begin to deliver medical products to local hospitals and others in the department – gloves, surgical soaps, oxygen tubes, inhaler chambers, stretchers, antibacterial soaps, thermometers, surgical glasses, and disposable gowns – to aid hospitals in dealing with this crisis.
