On September 3, 2023, just hours after a public hearing with the National Mining Agency, Johan Ferney Aguilar González was murdered. Johan was the son of Wilmer Antonio Aguilar Rodríguez, an Environmental Leader in the municipality of Falan Tolima and one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Miranda Gold company. The leader and his family had previously received threats, allegedly associated with their opposition to mining in the municipality of Falan – Tolima.
