“Labour Ministry denies additional abuse claims by MBC weathercasters – says no evidence of harassment”, 10 June 2025

South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labour, which previously acknowledged the harassment of the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna but denied her status as a worker, has now concluded that no additional workplace harassment occurred among her fellow weathercasters, drawing renewed scrutiny.

On 10 June, a ministry official told Media Today that, “Following interviews and investigations with the deceased and other complainants, no further incidents of harassment were confirmed.” This statement refers to another case raised within MBC, in which a different weathercaster reported similar abuse—allegations the ministry ultimately rejected.

… Jin Jae-yeon, executive director of the media labour rights group Ending Credit, said on the same day: “It is hard to trust that the ministry thoroughly investigated the second case or that no harm occurred. The ministry must disclose not only why it does not recognise weathercasters as workers, but also how it reached the conclusion that no harassment took place.”
