Tiger Beer maker Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS) has retrenched 33 workers in its latest restructuring exercise.

[...]

A spokesman said in an e-mail to ST: “In line with changing market realities in Singapore, APBS has made some changes to our operations to step up productivity... Unfortunately, a number of roles were impacted through this restructuring process.”

The spokesman added: “We are grateful for the contributions of the affected employees and have provided all necessary support as aligned with the union and retrenchment guidelines.”

[...]

The affected employee said: “It came as a surprise and it was kept a secret until the exercise on Nov 23.

“During town halls, employees were also told that the company is doing well and meeting financial targets. Hence, many (workers) cannot reconcile the business performance with the (retrenchment) exercise.”

The employee added: “Initially, it was difficult for me to accept that the company has abandoned me, but I have come to accept it.”

According to APBS’ profile on LinkedIn, it is part of The Heineken Company and has between 201 and 500 employees in Singapore.
