Summary of global consultations with Indigenous experts

The Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI), and the Business and Human Rights Centre organised two online consultations on 3 August 2023, as part of our project “Indigenous Peoples-led renewable energy: Exploring co-ownership, including equity models, for the Just Energy Transition.” Forty-one Indigenous experts from around the world participated in the event, which was held under Chatham House rules.

Conference on Indigenous Peoples and the Just Transition

Indigenous representatives from seven socio-cultural regions met to discuss address the pressing issues surrounding a just energy transition in a first-of-its-kind conference ahead of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), organised from 12 – 14 April 2024 by Business and Human Rights Centre, Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) and Right Energy Partnership with Indigenous Peoples (REP).

Shared prosperity models and Indigenous leadership for a just transition

This public in-person event aims to shed light on the Indigenous Peoples and Nations forging ahead in leading significant clean energy projects. In projects initiated by renewable energy companies on or close to Indigenous lands, Indigenous Peoples are increasingly seeking equitable arrangements including ownership and control of these projects.
