BC Hydro is a government-owned corporation in British Columbia that generates, buys, sells, and distributes electricity across the province. They operate a mix of thermal and hydroelectric power plants, serving customers through a vast 78,000-kilometer network. Established in 1962 by the Hydro and Power Authority Act, BC Hydro is owned by the provincial government and managed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines. They also oversee subsidiaries like Powerex Corp. and Powertech Labs Inc.
