Japan: Human Rights Now recommends introduction of effective grievance mechanism in SMEs

Human Rights Now has released a "Proposal for the Introduction of an Effective Grievance Mechanism in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)."

SMEs, regardless of their size, are expected to establish or participate in grievance mechanisms. However, the reality is that SMEs are still not sufficiently involved in grievance mechanisms, mainly due to their lack of human and financial resources compared to larger enterprises.

On the other hand, SMEs have the potential to introduce a grievance mechanism by making use of their business scale. In addition, we believe that introducing a grievance mechanism and giving consideration to the human rights of employees and others will contribute to the sustainability of SMEs.

This proposal presents examples of corporate initiatives and makes recommendations on issues that need to be addressed by companies and the government in order for SMEs to introduce an effective grievance mechanism.
